A Second Chance for a Dying West Palm Beach Property
The 38 year old Palm Beach Mall on Palm Beach Lakes Boulevard and Interstate 95 is "getting an extreme makeover." Simon Property Group, the mall´s secretive owner, will only say that the West Palm Beach property will soon be undergoing "major redevelopment."
Retail experts think that Simon will tear down part of its West Palm Beach property and make it the ideal place for big, corporate tenants, such as Target, Marshalls and Kohl´s.
This West Palm Beach property was the first mall in Palm Beach County, openning in 1967, but since the population shift north in the 1980´s and the openning of the Mall at Wellington Green in 2001, the Palm Beach Mall has been left almost devoid of customers. Even two big mainstays, Lord & Taylor and Old Navy moved out of the mall in 2001 because of the lack of business.
Renovating this dying West Palm Beach property is Simon´s last hope. If it doesn´t work, the county´s oldest mall may soon be history.
