Stronger and Safer than West Palm Beach Homes
With the passage of Rita, Katrina and Wilma, a lot of locals are preparing for the next big storm. Some are even considering buying DuPont’s newest product for their West Palm Beach homes. The company’s StormRooms have become of great interest to residents all over Florida.
A StormRoom is essentially a closet made of Kevlar, “the same material used in tank armor and bulletproof vests,” that can protect up to ten people during a huge natural disaster. Once installed in West Palm Beach homes, it has to be bolted into a four inch concrete slab. The shelter “can withstand winds of up to 250 mph and more than 80,000 pounds of weight,” meaning that it will be left standing even if all West Palm Beach homes have been blown away.
In case residents opt to leave their West Palm Beach homes before the next storm hits, the rooms can also serve as a safe-deposit box in which to protect valuables that can’t be packed into the car.
