About West Palm Beach

Considered one of the fastest growing areas in the United States, West Palm Beach is also the oldest city in Palm Beach County. Established by Henry Flagler, the city was incorporated in 1894. West Palm Beach was originally created for the workers who were building Flagler’s mansions and hotels.

With over 86,000 residents, West Palm Beach is a community for families, retirees and working professionals. It has a multitude of neighborhoods and communities to suit just about anyone’s tastes. And how can residents and visitors resist this enchanting city located on the East Coast of Florida?

Within the last decade West Palm Beach has experienced impressive redevelopment from the restoration and preservation of the historic districts to the development of newer communities. What was once bordering on a ghost town has evolved into a metropolis.

Downtown West Palm Beach has become a haven for the urban lifestyle, growing into a cultural, retail and entertainment area full of energy. There is the bustling Clematis Street, the enjoyable GreenMarket and the newest addition, City Place, a multi-million dollar project that blends commercial and residential spaces. West Palm Beach is also home to the Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, the Palm Beach Philharmonic and the Norton Museum.

West Palm Beach has miles of beaches, world-class fishing, and golf. There are more golf courses in Palm Beach County than any in the United States. It is also becoming known as a cultural community with several museums, galleries, theaters and festivals, most notably the SunFest in late April - early May. Considered Florida’s largest jazz, arts and water event, SunFest is known for its shows, entertainment, arts and crafts booths and food.
