West Palm Beach Real Estate Chosen for New City Hall

In mid-September, the city of West Palm Beach, Florida finally decided on plans for the construction of a new city hall. The project is called City Center and would include city hall, a library and the Palm Beach Photographic Centre.

City Center will be located on the block of West Palm Beach real estate "bound by Clematis Street, Dixie Highway, and Banyan and Quadrille boulevards." The city hopes that moving into the area will revive "the sleepy stretch of road."

The construction of the five story city hall and four story library, which is expected to be completed by the end of 2007, was estimated to cost $47 million in February 2004. However, the increasing cost of construction and West Palm Beach real estate has put the estimated price today at $88 million, "$104.4 million with the garage and the land - a 57 percent increase."

The one plus is that the existing city hall site can be sold for upwards of $25 million, and the sale of other West Palm Beach real estate should garner an additional $1.5 million for the project.
